The shocking news of Google Pixel 6A
You may have heard that Google’s latest Pixel is experiencing some issues, but this time it may be more serious. Reviewers have discovered that the fingerprint sensor on the recently released Pixel 6a appears to unlock even with unregistered prints.
Google's latest Pixel is having some issues, which is a statement you may have heard us say often but this time it may be a bit serious. Reviewers have noticed that the fingerprint sensor on the newly launched Pixel 6a seems to be unlocking even with unregistered prints.
The issue was first brought to light by Beebom on YouTube. In their testing, the Pixel 6a unlocked with the thumbprints of two additional team members even though their prints were never registered.
Needless to say, this does nullify the security benefits of having a fingerprint lock on the device in the first place. The good thing is that this is most likely something that Google can fix in software, so it's worth keeping an eye out for that.
In the meantime, if you own the device and are worried about its security, you should probably just set a strong passcode.
Google Pixel 6a has a security flaw
Whether it is a bug that can be fixed via software update or hardware issue, the company is yet to confirm. For now, the Pixel 6a can be unlocked with fingerprints that are not even registered. While in our and Geekyranjit’s video, the flaw can only be seen with the same person’s unregistered fingerprint, Beebom’s video suggests anyone can unlock the device. The latter’s video shows multiple people being able to open the Pixel 6a. The handset’s security can be compromised by anyone.
This isn’t going to go down well for Google, which is selling a smartphone in India after a gap of two years. Additionally, the Pixel 6a doesn’t come cheap. The phone is priced in India at Rs 43,999.
